The Top 10 Brunch Spots In Zapopan, Guadalajara

Lauren Cocking

Zapopan, an upscale city that forms part of Guadalajara’s Municipal Zone, is the perfect place for a classy, laid-back lunch, and is easily accessible for those staying in Guadalajara itself. Mainly a residential area, Zapopan also has a beautiful central plaza with an impressive church which is definitely worth visiting. Stop by for brunch at one of these 10 restaurants and make a day of it.

Croque Madame

1. Shabby Shabby

Cafe, Restaurant, French

Shabby Shabby is actually a chic chic little cafe perfect for brunching in Zapopan, which is growing in popularity. It’s filled with quirky touches, such as distressed effect, mismatched wooden furniture, oversize vintage looking mirror frames, and decadent chandeliers, all based around a neutral color scheme with the odd pop of color. The food is equally impressive and just as beautifully presented. Jars, chopping boards, vintage serving bowls – you name it, Shabby Shabby will serve you food from it. Try their French inspired fusion brunch dishes, such as Croque Monsieur or Croque Madame.

2. DELI HOUSE Buffet

Deli, Restaurant

DELI HOUSE Buffet

The service in this breakfast and brunch restaurant is second to none; attentive and friendly, and the food is excellent. Options range from freshly baked breads or chilaquiles, to chocolate-drizzled waffles or omelets. DELI HOUSE Buffet is perhaps not a frequent haunt of tourists, so speaking some Spanish may be advisable. But either way, we recommend you head down to enjoy a delicious and filling brunch in the sleek, simple, clean environment that DELI HOUSE offers.

3. Boca Floja

Boca Floja

Boca Floja serves up healthy and natural brunch-time options to suit everyone. It looks welcoming and fresh from the outside, lined with plants and dark wood with pops of color to draw the eye. This appealing exterior is matched in the presentation of the food, where the attention to detail is impressive. Have you ever tried a beetroot soup that has a spider web design on the top? At Boca Floja, you can. Accompany it with a freshly homemade salsa, and the agua fresca of the day for the perfect, refreshing lunch.

4. Bake and Kitchen

Bakery, Restaurant, Dessert, Vegetarian

This contemporary looking brunch restaurant is elegant and attractive, with the option of outdoor seating under sun shades or indoors in the spacious, light dining area. Try out traditional eggs Benedict, hotcakes with fresh fruit (or bacon, if that’s more to your taste), or even their take on the Frenchc croque ham and cheese sandwich, topped with a perfectly fried sunny-side up egg. As Bake and Kitchen is, rather unsurprisingly given the name, a bakery too, the bread and pastries are outstanding and worth giving a go if you just fancy a light brunch.

5. La Ciudad de Los Almuerzos

La Ciudad de Los Almuerzos

For traditional Mexican brunch dishes, head down to La Ciudad de Los Almuerzos, which has a fantastic repertoire of options. Recently featured in Gente Bien Jalisco, La Ciudad de Los Almuerzos is a popular and reliable option that has received recognition for its excellence. You can’t leave without having tried their baked-to-perfection conchitas and the seasonal orange flavored pan de muertos. Equally, enchiladas bathed in a rich, chocolatey mole sauce is another sure fire winner. Wash it all down with a classic cinnamon coffee, café de olla.

6. Corazón Culinario

Corazón Culinario

This tiny delicatessen is ideally located in Plaza Bugambilias and offers some unique and delicious brunch options, such as the decadent waffle sandwich and freshly made juices and milkshakes. Your waffle sandwich can be savory or sweet, and the Waffle Culinario comes well recommended. Their fresh ingredients and contemporary decor, combined with the innovative flavor combinations, make Corazón Culinario a great spot to check out if you’re searching for a quick and easy brunch in Zapopan. They also sell organic products for you to take home and enjoy.

7. Brunch & Coffee

Cafe

Brunch & Coffee

The aptly named Brunch & Coffee offers very reasonably priced brunches five days a week. Clean, inviting, and beautifully decorated, this cafe often gets passed over in favor of other more well-known ones, but the brunch is great and we highly recommend checking it out. The menu changes regularly, and costs just 60 pesos for a soup starter, main dish and dessert. Or you can choose from one of the breakfast packets, which are made up of either biónicos (yogurt, fruit and granola), molletes, chilaquiles, huevos al gusto, or hotcakes.

8. Funnel Bakery

Bakery, Dessert

Funnel Bakery is an excellent brunch option for sweet lovers, as it has some of the most divine desserts in Zapopan. Try out the eponymous funnel cake, or even ice cream, strawberry and chocolate sauce topped waffles. If you aren’t such a fan of sweet treats, then the breakfast options available here are also well-prepared and competitively priced. Check out the omelets, or the panini capri paired with Heavenly Fries if you fancy something a bit more filling. Decor wise, it’s cozy and familial, providing an excellent space for a chat with friends over a lingering brunch and desserts.

9. Chai Rosas

Chai Rosas

Chai is a favorite among locals, but particularly among foreigners. One of several different locations throughout Guadalajara and Zapopan, Chai Rosas is one of the most attractive, offering incredibly comfortable outdoor sofa seating options that make getting up and leaving after your meal very hard. Most definitely a spot for brunch, Chai offers well priced and basic favorites, such as pastas and sandwiches, but also has excellent (and namesake) Chai frappes in several flavors. The apple frappe is delightfully refreshing.

10. La Tetería

Cafe, Tea Room, Tea

Literally translating to “teapot”, La Tetería is the perfect place to swing by for brunch if you coffee lovers come accompanied by tea drinkers too, as you’ll find both served here in this cute little cafe. Try the green and red chilaquiles, served with beans and nopales (cactus). Don’t miss the chance to try the frappe options, which range from chai to mint chocolate flavors. The decor is minimalist, with comfortable sofa style seats indoors, and rustic wooden tables and chairs in the quaint patio area. Chalkboard walls provide information about prices and offers.
