New York City is constantly changing – neighborhoods are always evolving, and prices always rising. Whether you’re new to the city or a lifelong local, it’s always good to know about the latest and hippest scenes in town, from shopping to eating to apartment-hunting. We present our guide to the city’s trendiest up-and-coming neighborhoods for tourists and residents alike.

Bushwick, Brooklyn

Bushwick

Starting off this list with one of the most popular and affordable neighborhoods on the rise, Bushwick is Brooklyn’s newest hipster area. Young artists and creative types priced out of Williamsburg have migrated east to a neighborhood full of cheap vintage stores, coffee shops, cocktail bars and artist-run galleries. The streets are lined with incredible graffiti and beautiful apartment buildings, and everywhere you go you’ll see young trendy crowds. Residents rave about the area’s unique community vibe.

Astoria

Located in Queens, Astoria has been rising in prominence for a while now as an affordable alternative to some of the increasingly popular parts of Brooklyn. Right on the river, Astoria has stunning views of Manhattan, delicious, cultural restaurants, and offers an easy commute to Midtown. This neighborhood is known to attract young professionals and creative types, but prices are rising so catch it while you still can still afford it.

Washington Heights

Washington Heights is a neighborhood in Upper Manhattan, located above Harlem with a prominent Dominican community. This area is known for its amazing Dominican cuisine and fantastic nightlife. A great combination for memorable evenings. Apartments are still well-priced and the area continues to attract new crowds while still retaining an intimate community vibe.

Greenpoint

Bordering Queens, Greenpoint is a quaint Brooklyn neighborhood with affordable rent and lots of local cultures. Trees, beautiful brownstones, one-off boutiques and charming cafés line every street and a booming nightlife keeps the neighborhood energetic, and local artist-run galleries contribute to a rich and intimate culture.

Williamsburg

Williamsburg

While Williamsburg has already been on the city’s radar for quite some time, we really can’t talk about the trendiest places in NYC without paying homage the original hipster neighborhood. Home to a seemingly endless number of hip bars, flea markets, vintage clothing stores, art galleries and record stores, Williamsburg is also the site of industrial skyscrapers and charming brownstones. All in all, perhaps the trendiest place in Brooklyn.

Park Slope

Bordering Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, the well-established neighborhood of Park Slope is characterized by a real Brooklyn community. Park Slope is also situated close to cultural institutions like the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, as well as great bars, restaurants and shops alongside green spaces and an excellent public school system for those with children.

Bedford-Stuyvesant

With Bushwick nearby, Bed-Stuy is an affordable up-and-coming neighborhood with its own brand of quirky charm. The diversity, beautiful brownstones and vibrant characters that call Bed-Stuy home make this place stand out. With a rich history and NYC icons such as Biggie and Jay-Z hailing from Bed-Stuy, this is a neighborhood to keep an eye on.
