If there’s one thing the Cornish know how to do well, it’s make a cream tea. None of this cream on before the jam nonsense that you’ll find across the river in Devon. No, the Cornish make a cream tea just right, with the jam on the bottom with a healthy dollop of thick Cornish clotted cream on top. Here are the best places to find them.

1. Trengwainton Tearooms

Tea Room, Tea , European

Down in the depths of Cornwall is the beautiful and sub-tropical National Trust garden of Trengwainton. The cafe attached garden is a quiet haven which buzzes with bees and serves deliciously fresh and tasty delights for most of the year. The star of the show however is the cream tea. Made on-site in the kitchen, which you can see busily working when you order your food, the tearoom’s unique recipe has got the buttery goodness of a scone down to perfection. Twinned with the finest local jam and cream, and you’ve got yourself a winner.

2. Duchy of Cornwall Nursery Cafe

Cafe, Deli, Tea Room, Tea , British

Overlooking Restormel Castel, with views of the green and leafy Fowey Valley, you can spend hours whiling away the time watching the world slip by. This award-winning cafe offers some of the best produce coming out of Cornwall. This is showcased most perfectly through the cream tea, which combines all the very best of Cornwall in one delicious mouthful.

3. Picnic Cornwall

Cafe, Deli, Healthy, British, Vegetarian

Picnic is a lovely little coffee shop and deli in the heart of bustling Falmouth. It offers an astonishing array of afternoon tea options, including a cream tea hamper with a bottle of local Camel Valley Brut. Everything in Picnic is local and fresh, meaning that taste is something that doesn’t get scrimped on.

4. Trevallicks Farm Shop and Tearoom

Farm Shop, Tea , Vegetarian, British

Sitting on the edge of Bodmin, and near to magnificent views of the Cornish countryside, is the lovely Trevallicks Farm Shop and Tearoom. Any produce which can be Cornish is Cornish here, so from breakfast to your afternoon cream to dessert, the food served here is low in food miles and big in taste.

5. Woods Cafe

Cafe, Tea Room, British, Healthy, Tea

Nestled in the heart of Cardinham Woods is a gorgeous old house-come-cafe called The Woods, where a visit really is about getting away from it all. The cream teas here are as excellen surroundings, as are their amazing selection of home-baked cakes.

6. Godrevy Beach Cafe

Cafe, Tea Room, Tea , British, Vegetarian

Just a short stroll from Gwithian Beach and one of Cornwall’s most beautiful surfing spots is the Godrevy Beach Cafe. The cafe not only prides itself on fresh and wholesome food, but the views and location are second to none. Sit upstairs behind the A-frame windows on a stormy day for the best experience.

7. Trevaskis Farm

Restaurant, British, Vegetarian, Vegan

Trevaskis Farm is famous in Cornwall for a reason; large portions, cakes bigger than your head and a farm shop full of goodies grown on this 23-acre farm. A trip here is not only good for lunch and snack but as a family day out too. Visitors are free to pick their own fruit and veg on the farm, and you only pay for what you pick, with no entrance fee. The cream tea here is as generous as the rest of the food, so best to share to avoid overindulgence!
