Muscat, the capital city of Oman, is not only the biggest metropolitan city in Oman, but the one with the most historical significance for the country. Throughout different periods of history, Muscat was an important trading port between the western world and the eastern. Moreover, as it was ruled by various indigenous tribes and foreign powers, the city is culturally and architecturally rich. Between its magnificent natural beauty and mind-blowing architectural wonder, here is how to perfectly spend a night out in the amazingly-splendid Muscat.

Go to The Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House is the prime organization for arts and culture in the Sultanate of Oman. The opera offers different programs that are culturally, artistically and educationally diverse. It organizes various shows from Oman, the Arab region and the whole world. The shows vary between traditional dances, stage presentations, musical concerts, orchestra performances and plays.

Take A Walk on Muttrah Corniche

The Muttrah Corniche stretches in front of Muttrah’s lovely houses, architecturally beautiful mosques and local authentic souks. It starts with the well-known Fish Market of Muttrah, to the traditional famous Muttrah Souk and the ancient Muttrah Fort. It is one of Muscat’s most vibrant areas. Whether visiting the Muttrah souk, having coffee or tea in one of Muttrah’s cafes or simply walking by the seafront, Muttrah Corniche is a unique, simple experience to spend night time in Muscat.

Go Shopping

Muscat is full of malls and shopping centers, there is even more than one big mall in some of its cities. Although big shops inside malls like H&M, Next, etc. close by 10 pm, most close their doors by midnight, so visitors can go to eat in restaurants, cafes and dessert places, or watch a movie in the different cinemas. The most famous malls in Muscat are Muscat City Center, Oman Avenues Mall, and Muscat Grand Mall.

Attend Muscat Festival

Muscat Festival is one of the most celebratory in Oman. It takes place annually at the beginning of the year around January and February. It is a cultural and artistic event that offers shows from around the world as well as Omani traditional dances and performances. The festival takes place in Amerat and Naseem parks in Muscat and lasts for about a month. Besides the shows and performances, the festival hosts several shopping exhibitions for local and international products, as well as many sports events. During the time of the festival, Muscat almost never sleeps, which makes it a desirable destination to spend a night.

Go to a Cafe Or Eat in a Restaurant

Despite the early closure of traditional and local markets in Muscat, there are lots of cafes and restaurants that stay open until midnight. Visitors can enjoy desserts, Omani and international food, local hot drinks and fresh juices. The most famous cafes in Muscat are Moorish Cafe, Halwa Lounge Cafe, the Cake Gallery and others. Among the top restaurants are the Beach Restaurant at the Chedi Muscat, the Turkish House Restaurant and the Turkish Diwan Restaurant. Most hotels in Muscat also have their own bars and night lounges like Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, which has the famous Piano Lounge, where visitors can enjoy music and drinks.
