Fortunately, Bad Wildbad, an idyllic town in Germany’s Black Forest, offers all this and more. Let’s take a look at the most awesome things Bad Wildbad has in store for you.

1. Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald

Forest

Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald gives the entire family the chance to bond closely with nature and enjoy a perspective of the gorgeous expanse of the Black Forest that is impossible to imagine from the ground. The wood and steel trophy-like structure tilts and twists upwards, inviting travelers to walk along its boardwalk to reach the 130-foot (40-meter) viewing tower. Once at the top, travelers are rewarded with spectacular views over the impenetrably dark forest and rolling hills.

The Sommerbergbahn (Sommerberg Funicular Railway) has been whisking travelers to the Sommerberg Plateau from Bad Wildbad for over 100 years. The Sommerbergbahn journeys through the lush vegetation of the Black Forest for a few minutes to reach the 1,063-foot (324-meter) plateau. From there, visitors can feast their eyes on sweeping views of the Black Forest as far as the eye can see.

4. The Fautsburg

Forest, Ruins

Ruins of the 11th-century Fautsburg Castle perch on an elevated ridge between the two rivers Kleine Enz and Enz, hidden away in the dense vegetation of the Black Forest. While the original residential quarters, walls, moats, gates, and courtyard have succumbed to time, the tower still stands proudly. This small castle was used as a secret abode and later as a quarry, and still has a mysterious charm. Travelers can hike to the Fautsburg from Rehmühle, Hünerberg, and Meistern, along well-marked pathways.
