Chueca as a neighborhood has become a popular area for Madrid’s gay community, with a lot of LGBT or LGBT-friendly shops. We show you where to eat out in this lively place by highlighting the best restaurants of Chueca, Spain.

1. Casa 9 Restaurante

Casa 9 is a small and intimate restaurant with a modern finish. The menu changes on a daily basis as the chef goes to the market every day and bases the menu on what they purchase. Therefore, all dishes are made from fresh produce, promising a delightful meal. It makes for a great evening to dine at Casa 9 as the staff are attentive and accommodating. Gastromaquia

Hugo, the owner and chef, adds a personal touch to his service. His excellent service provides an unforgettable meal. Gastromaquia’s food is not like any other Madrid restaurant. Hugo gives them a creative and tasty blend. Be warned – you have to make a reservation in advance to eat here. Gastromaquia’s restaurant is quite the popular place in the Chueca neighborhood. The staff is very accommodating and friendly, eager to suggest how much to order for the amount of people you are with and making recommendations.

2. Da Gavino

Da Gavino is a great little restaurant in Chueca. The restaurant serves all fresh and homemade Italian dishes. Customers may be lucky enough to be greeted by the very friendly owner. The Italian young man is very helpful and more than happy to explain the dishes on offer. Prices are rated as good for the quality of food and service at the restaurant.

3. Restaurante Casa Salvador

The decor is incredibly homely at the Casa Salvador restaurant in Chueca. The food is typically Spanish with a fixed menu at the restaurant. The food is prepared from scratch and is of a high standard. Waiters all dress in traditional uniforms from the ’60s. A friendly and helpful staff, they’re always very helpful in their suggestions to tourists. This restaurant is a comfortable place to enter on your own. There is usually a mix of Spanish and tourists found in the restaurant day and night.

4. Vesuvio

Vesuvio is a great pizza parlor in Chueca. It is a wonderful little place in which the counter seating adds to the charm of the restaurant. The pizza is fresh, tasty and delicious at a great price. There’s a great atmosphere inside as the venue often fills up quickly with customers. The staff are a cheerful bunch and customers are generally regulars who keep coming back.

5. El Pepinillo de Barquillo

El Pepinillo de Barguillo has a classy atmosphere in a relaxed and cozy restaurant. However, be aware of the huge pickle hanging from the ceiling upon arrival. The restaurant poses a personal and professional service, and the chef, who is also the owner, is a delight to chat with. There’s also a great deal of a three-course meal with a bottle of wine at the El Pepinillo de Barquillo. Family-friendly and suitable for couples, this is a perfect restaurant for a date or other occasions.

Acqua Alta

Acqua Alta is a great Italian restaurant in the neighborhood of Chueca. These authentic Italian restaurants are hard to find in Madrid. It is located on a quiet street and is fast becoming one of the trendiest restaurants in the area. The Acqua Alta promises to have the best mozzarella experience available to diners. The chef uses the most fresh and excellent ingredients, giving the dishes a splendid taste. There are lunch time specials on offer, with a great service available to customers – who regularly return for more.

Everything is homemade (even the beer) in order to give their food an authentic identity. Some of their highlights are premium beef hamburgers, slow-cooked ribs, or the pulled pork sandwich. Desserts are also on offer as well as vegetarian meals. Mad Grill promises a delightful dining experience.

Even if you don’t like big crowds, do not miss the opportunity to experience Mercado San Antón in Madrid.
