Once an industrial port town, Malmö is now a flourishing, young metropolis, just a 34-minute train ride from Copenhagen in Denmark. The third-largest city in Sweden, located on the southern part of the country, it is fast building a reputation for its innovative, environmental take on a modern city. Explore Malmö Castle and discover the cosy Lilla Torg square, filled with restaurants and cafés, before finishing your day with a falafel. Yes, really. Malmö’s multi-cultural population has gifted the city with the best Middle Eastern food around. These are best hotels to stay in during your visit.

Located in a historic building near the central train station is Comfort Hotel Malmö, a modern, trendy hotel. The rooms are decorated in rock-chic style, with bright wall colours, funky pictures and wooden furniture. The building’s history is also showcased in its large windows, beautiful chandeliers and gilded pilasters. Choose from smaller economy rooms, if you’re on a budget, or larger standard rooms. An unusual highlight is the hotel’s gym, located in a former ballroom.

Teaterhotellet is a cosy hotel, right next door to Malmö Opera House. The modern design is highlighted by dark wooden furniture, warm colours and simple decor. Malmö’s Konsthall, displaying modern and contemporary art, is close to the hotel, as is the Pildammsparken. The hotel offers a delicious breakfast buffet, including hot dishes, a variety of breads and cheeses, mueslis, yoghurt, crackers, fresh juices, tea and coffee.

Located right next to Malmö’s Concert Hall is Quality Hotel – The Mill. This large, modern hotel has 224 rooms and is popular with both business travellers and families, thanks to its sofa beds and interconnecting rooms. Perks include underground parking as well as a cocktail bar in reception, with discounted drinks on a Friday evening. Ask for a room on one of the higher floors for great views of the Malmö area.
