The Best Golf Courses in Puerto Rico

The temperate climate of Puerto Rico gives you year-round opportunities to enjoy golf, and the island’s courses offer challenges that you may not experience elsewhere. The ocean winds alone will have you adjusting that swing. If you love golf, check out these resorts and golf courses during your next trip to Puerto Rico.

1. Wyndham Rio Mar Golf Club

This golf club is bordered by El Yunque National Forest, the Maneyes River, and the Atlantic Ocean. There are two 18-hole courses. The Ocean course is 6,174 yards and is surrounded by El Yunque on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. The River course is 6,945 yards and was designed by Australian professional golfer Greg Norman. It follows the river with stunning views of El Yunque National Forrest and the Atlantic Ocean. These courses are part of the gorgeous Wyndham Resort in Rio Grande, so book a few nights and enjoy golfing in paradise.

There are four 18-hole courses that run through ocean front coconut groves. The East course is 7,200 yards and was voted Puerto Rico’s best course by Golf Digest. The Sugarcane Course is a diverse 7,119-yard course. It starts out with plenty of birdie opportunities but by the eighth hole the course begins to show its teeth. The Friendly Pineapple Course is a kinder 7,030-yard course that has some fantastic ocean views. The Scenic West Course is a 6,975-yard course that has beautiful ocean views and the toughest par 3 holes of all the courses.

3. Palmas Athletic Club at Palmas del Mar

There are two 18-hole golf courses. The Flamboyan Course features wide fairways, deep bunkers and challenging greens. Voted second best course in Puerto Rico by Golf Digest. The Palm Course offers a tournament grade front nine that requires precise shot abilities because of the narrow fairways. The back nine eases up to allow the golfer views of the Caribbean and the lush foliage.

5. Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club

This 6,890-yard course has the Atlantic Ocean on one side and El Yunque National Forest on the other. Fifteen of the eighteen holes are bordered by water. The resort has properties that you can buy or rent to stay in utter luxury.

6. Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club

This 27-hole championship course has ocean and tropical views, 14 beautiful lakes and, at the 12th hole, the first island green in Puerto Rico. Yardage ranges from 5,201 to 6,937.

7. Punta Borinquen Golf Club

This 18-hole course was designed in the 1940s as part of Ramey Air Force Base. A Coast Guard base has replaced the AFB, but the golf course remains. There are eight holes along the northwestern tip of the island where very often there are challenging breezes off the ocean. It is a popular course for both locals and tourists.

8. Club Deportivo del Oeste

This 18-hole par 71 course overlooks the Caribbean Sea and provides a challenge for any skill level. It is one of only two golf courses on the southwest coast of the island. They have a practice area and putting green, and golf pro Dennis Cabán, Jr is available for lessons.

9. Royal Isabela Golf Course

This 426-acre course travels along the Atlantic with 200 ft cliffs down to the ocean. The front nine have been described as “equatorial parkland” in nature while the back nine become a greater challenge with the cliffs and the offshore breezes. The golf course is part of the Royal Isabela Resort, which is a decadent indulgence in relaxation. Take a special someone, even if they are not into golfing.
