The Top Restaurants In Dover, New Hampshire

Lani Seelinger

Dover is the oldest settlement permanently inhabited by Europeans in New Hampshire. Nowadays, you’ll receive some of that old-worlde charm when you arrive, but you’ll also find some of the best of modern cuisine too. We list the best places to eat local food here.

1. Christopher’s Third Street Grille

Christopher’s Third Street Grille

Christopher’s Third Street Grille is something of a unicorn among restaurants; a place that serves fascinating, gourmet quality meals far under the price you might expect to pay for them. The chefs take time selecting the best and freshest ingredients, and then they like to let them speak for themselves. The added spices and flavor combinations bring out the best in the ingredients. This is a great place to come for seafood, whether its in the form of their delicious New England clam chowder or the sumptuous lobster macaroni and cheese.

2. Patty B’s

Restaurant, Italian, Fast Food, Vegetarian

If Italian food is what you want in Dover, check out Patty B’s. The restaurant is quite new in the area, but the owner has a lifetime of experience making Italian food. Indeed, the owner’s goal was to make the restaurant smell like her grandmother’s house. For a treat that you can share, get the bruschetta appetizer; instead of using raw tomatoes, they roast them and then chill them together with all of the other ingredients. The specialty of the house is the eggplant parmesan, and you won’t want to miss that one either.

3. Newick’s Lobster House

Pub, Restaurant, Seafood

Newick’s Lobster House began as a stand selling lobster rolls in 1948, when the original founder had just come back from serving in WWII. Three generations later, that lobster roll stand has turned into a bustling restaurant with, of course, the same lobster roll recipe. They’re constantly putting new and exciting dishes on the menu, though, so you can find those sprinkled in amongst the old classics. One of their favorite newer recipes is the seafood shepherd’s pie, which is a special New England take on the English pub classic.

4. h Settlement

7th Settlement

7th Settlement is more than just a craft brewery. They’re actively engaged in trying to bring Dover together, and they’re using their brewpub to do just that. They personally know all of the farmers, fishermen, and others who bring them the ingredients that they use to put together each item on their menu, which adds to the very personal quality of the food and the whole brewpub. And they make the beer right there, as owning a microbrewery was the lifelong dream of the two brewers; therefore, they really put their all into making it the perfect watering hole.

5. Saigon & Tokyo

Restaurant, Asian, Japanese, Chinese, Sushi, Vietnamese

From the name of the restaurant, you can guess that you’ll be able to get dishes pulled from various Asian cuisines if you go to Saigon & Tokyo. One country is unrepresented in the name, though, because the restaurant serves Chinese food in addition to Vietnamese and Japanese fare. Their sushi menu is particularly impressive; if you’re a fan, you’ll have a hard time narrowing down their selection of over 30 specialty rolls. Whatever you choose will come quickly, and the portions are much bigger than you’d expect for the price. If you have any questions, the friendly staff will be glad to help you out.

6. Adelle’s Coffee House

Adelle’s Coffee House

The bright and colorful Adelle’s Coffee House is the ultimate incarnation of warmth and friendliness. They have some of the best coffee in the city, which comes in almost any variety you can imagine and is always expertly made and delivered hot and fresh. They also have cold drinks for when you need refreshment, such as lemonades, frappes, and iced coffees and tea. If you’re hungry, they always have bagels with various spreads and plenty of other tasty baked goods to go with your drink. Check out their calendar too, because they often host community-friendly events such as game nights.

Their menu is predictably long and jam-packed with all of your Chinese and Japanese food favorites. In addition to Chinese lunch combination specials, they also have all-day special combinations, which allow you to get an entrée with your choice of several appetizers for very low prices. On the Japanese side, they have sushi, tempura and teriyaki.

If you’re in the mood for something else, there are also sandwiches, salads, and pastas. Don’t forget a cannoli for dessert.

10. Thai Cuisine Restaurant

Restaurant, Thai

Thai Cuisine Restaurant is the go-to spot for Thai food in Dover and the surrounding area. Although it’s not a big restaurant, the service is good, so you’re unlikely to be waiting long. When the food arrives, you’ll have a fresh, tasty, and flavorful meal in a portion that you might be unable to eat alone. They also have takeout too. Some of the best dishes include the green curry and tom yum noodle bowl, both of which are as similar to the original versions as you can find without hopping across the Pacific.
