Sitting just 15 miles outside of Dallas, you’ll find a good time in the suburb of Grand Prairie; it boasts a number of local bars that are just as friendly and laid-back as you can get. Visit one of our top bars in Grand Prairie for a cold drink and a large dose of warm Texas charm.

1. Agua Azul

Bar, Restaurant, Mexican, Seafood

To be fair, Agua Azul isn’t technically a bar. It is a restaurant serving the freshest seafood Mexican cuisine in the area, but it made our list for its impressive tequila list and mixed margaritas. Though it is certainly family-friendly during the day, this restaurant is hopping at night. On weekends, Agua Azul hosts live music acts and shows sporting events. For a truly authentic evening, order the ceviche and a shot of good tequila while enjoying a soccer game. The staff will be cheering along with you as you enjoy the atmosphere and some of the best Mexican food you’ve ever had.

2. Bar & Book

Bar, American

If you’re new to the South, the sport of horse racing may seem foreign to you, but Bar & Book at Lone Star Park is a great place to be introduced to it. The bar is perfect for enjoying a race happening on Lone Star Park’s own track or anywhere else in the country. The bar and lounge areas are equipped with ample screens for checking out every angle of any important race. If horse racing isn’t your ideal sport to place a wager on, Bar & Book also offers poker tournaments and UFC match betting. Along with a well-stocked bar, guests can also dine on an impressive menu of American classics and Southern favorites. So, sidle up to the bar, and bring your luck with you.

3. Jack’s Pour House

Bar, Restaurant, American

With a friendly slogan stating, ‘Characters Welcome,’ Jack’s Pour House is an honest-to-goodness neighborhood haunt. The bar has been in business for over two decades and has changed little over the years. The interior walls are clad with wood paneling and each holiday brings out festive decorations for the season. With nine screens devoted to sports, it is the perfect place to enjoy the hottest sporting event of the moment, especially if a Texas team is playing. If you’re not coming to check out the sports, Jack’s offers pool, darts, karaoke, and dancing. This is truly the place to go for an unpretentious drink and a comfortable, fun night out.

5. Mixed Up Burgers

Bar, American

Who doesn’t love a good burger?! Texans especially do, and Mixed Up Burgers has the best in Grand Prairie. Their preparation of this all-American classic, however, is unique; customers choose from 24 different ingredients that are mixed right into the ground beef. The patties are then cooked to perfection and served on a bun, with the option of even more toppings to kick up the flavor. Mixed Up Burgers offers a casual, bar-like atmosphere but is family-friendly. Parents can enjoy a variety of beers on tap, mixed drinks, and margaritas, while their little ones nosh on hot dogs, wings, and house-made mac-n-cheese. Of course, sports are always playing at Mixed Up Burgers, especially Texas Rangers baseball games. So, bring your family and enjoy an evening that is as American as you can possibly get.

6. Oasis

Bar, American

On the south end of Grand Prairie, Joe Cool Lake is a popular place for fishing and watersports. Floating over the water with a fantastic view of the dock and the lake is Oasis Restaurant along with its Lakeview Bar. During lunch and dinner hours, Oasis serves seafood with Southern flair. Locals love the all-you-can-eat crawfish buffet on Tuesday nights and regular menu items like blackened alligator tail and fried oysters. Once the sun goes down, the Lakeview Bar comes alive with live music and strong drinks. The bar definitely has a lively party atmosphere, with the lights on the water creating a vibrant ambience.

7. The Daiquiri Shoppe

Bar, Restaurant, Cajun

If you’re looking for something unique, The Daiquiri Shoppe will fit the bill. This vibrant bar brings a touch of New Orleans to Grand Prairie. It is both an eat-in bar and a supplier of daiquiris for parties and get-togethers. Pull up a chair and enjoy one of over a dozen different blended daiquiri flavors. They also offer a menu featuring classics like po’ boy sandwiches and fried catfish. If a frozen, fruity drink isn’t your style, they also have beers, wines, mixed drinks, and jello shots. If you’re on the move, pick up a gallon of any of their signature daiquiri flavors to liven up your own party.

8. Theo’s Grill & Bar

Bar, Restaurant, American

For the last twenty years, Theo’s Grill & Bar has been one of the hottest spots in town. A family-run venue, the bar features hometown values and good service. Guests are always treated like friends, and newcomers are always welcome. There is always something fun happening at Theo’s. Sit back and listen to music from the old-fashioned juke box or from one of the local bands. If you think you have the chops, stop by on Friday night for karaoke. And if poker is more your style, visit on Tuesdays and get ready to lay down. Theo’s has a separate restaurant space where you can enjoy hearty homestyle classics. With Theo’s around, there is no excuse for boredom in Grand Prairie.

9. Thirsty’s Roadside Bar

Bar, Pub Grub

Thirsty’s is a long-time resident of Grand Prairie, but if you’re from the area, you may have known it by a different name: Mary’s Outpost. The bar has met with some mixed reviews in its past, even landing itself on the TV show ‘Bar Rescue,’ in which experts helped the dive bar improve their image and tighten up their ship. Along with the new name, the bar got a facelift with a new interior, furnishings, and menu. Thirsty’s — and Mary’s Outpost — has a loyal following that claims the bar’s special appeal has to do with the people who run it, the sense of community it creates, and the good times had by all. New furniture is great, but patrons still love it for its charm.
