The Top Cheap Hotels to Book in Ipanema, Rio De Janeiro
The most glamorous beach neighborhood in Rio has affordable rooms if you know where to look – and we do. Here are the best, all bookable on Culture Trip.
Ipanema is the beach suburb of choice for Rio’s rich – the city’s equivalent of the Upper East Side in New York City or Mayfair in London. It’s here that you’ll find the choicest stretch of sand, many of the best restaurants and the swishest bars. Staying here doesn’t come cheap, but there are a few gems hidden in the narrow grid of streets. Some are even right near the beach. Read on to discover the best cheap hotels in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro.
1. Che Lagarto
Hostel, Hotel
2. Mango Tree
Hostel, Hotel
Just a block from the finest patch of sand on Ipanema, the tranquil Mango Tree couldn’t be in a much better location. There’s a great-value semi-al-fresco cafe-restaurant, and plenty of hangout areas, but no booming parties to keep you awake. Segregated and mixed dorms sleep a maximum of six so never feel too crowded, even though beds are tightly packed-in. Doubles, triples and quadruples are compact, with private bathrooms, boasting modern muted palettes offset with colorful art and counterpanes.
4. Atlantis Copacabana Hotel
Hotel
On a quiet street an easy stroll from Ipanema, Copacabana and Arpoador beaches, the Atlantis is in a privileged location indeed. There’s a rooftop patio with glorious views over Rio’s skyline all the way to the Sugar Loaf, and a swimming pool and sauna. Rooms are decidedly compact, but on the upper floor they have ocean views, and all come in fresh, modern colors with little dining tables and a wardrobe. Top tip: a decent buffet breakfast is included in the price.
5. Hotel Vermont Ipanema
Hotel
6. Mar Ipanema Hotel
Hotel
7. Own Ipanema Visconti
Hotel
8. El Misti
Hostel, Budget Hotel
The Ipanema branch of this Rio hostel-chain is perfectly positioned, two minutes’ walk from the beach and the kiosk cafes around the Posto Nove lifeguard station. There are plenty of communal spaces where travelers meet, drink and party after buying cheap caipirinhas at the bar. The hostel cafe serves snack food (and a complimentary buffet breakfast) and there’s a patio with outdoor tables. Rooms and dorms are diminutive, with plenty of beds and modest bathroom space, but most guests and staff are here to party, so that means very little sleep.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
