When planning a trip to Virginia Beach, it’s important to remember the coffee shops for those early mornings of packed sight-seeing days, or late mornings of recovery from raucous nights on the town. These local coffee shops are a step above the norm and have far more charm that your average chain store.

1. Three Ships Coffee Roasters

Three Ships Coffee Roasters has house roasts, cold brews and pour overs ready to be served up by the awesome staff. This place isn’t just about coffee, it’s about specialty roasted coffee. Brad and Amy, the owners, are zealous about all aspects of their business and it shows. They’re meticulous and do all the roasting in house to stay pure to the varietal of the bean.

Cafe Moka has reasonable prices and is cheaper than most other local coffee shops. They offer wifi too, just ask for the password. There is a great assortment of drinks here and you can choose from five different ways to have your coffee brewed. If you’re not very coffee savvy the staff is always willing to help out and clarify in order to help you pick the best drink. They also have various varieties of tea for those who want something different.

3. Roast Rider Coffee + Tea

Roast Rider Coffee + Tea has a large selection of different coffees and teas for the connoisseur to choose from. They also offer free refills of regular and iced coffee in store. The staff will ask you if you want any house syrups added to your drink so be sure to try out the different ones, they have a Nutella one that should be top of your list. On top of that, the staff is very friendly and go above and beyond with their service.

4. Bad Ass Coffee

Bad Ass Coffee definitely offers more of a focus on coffee than tea, so be sure to order coffee if you fancy a hot drink. The food is good too, and you can definitely taste the difference and the care that goes into preparing the coffee versus what it would be at a chain place. There are also smoothies for the summer months which are just as delicious as the coffee drinks.

5. Marchese Italian Market

With a name like Marchese Italian Market it seems that this wouldn’t be a coffee place, but Marchese offers authentic espresso and Italian drinks and dishes. There is a grocery component to this coffee shop where you can get Italian products to take home with you. The staff are very nice and the prices are reasonable, making this a definite place to stop by.
