The Best Boutique Hotels in San Pedro de Atacama

Will Lees

San Pedro de Atacama, being one of the driest, most uninhabitable places in the world, might have you expecting a very basic town and even simpler dwellings. But due to the influx of tourism in this area, boutique hotels are popping up all over the place. The expanding tourist hotspot of San Pedro proves that you don’t need to be in a metropolis to enjoy a little bit of luxury.

The town of San Pedro, as it is often shortened to, is not a big place, but it is expanding and Hotel Cumbres caters to those who want to be just on the outside. A peaceful 2km (1.2 mile) walk will have you in the center of town, but at your hotel, you will feel like you are in a secluded, diamond rated resort, with a remarkable wood structure, beautiful lodge style accommodation, and a few pools to enjoy the desert sun while it is still overhead.

With no available shade in San Pedro, your eyes will enjoy the calming low light and gorgeous shades of natural wood in your own private cabana at Poblado Kimal. Your body will also appreciate the feel of the incredibly comfortable beds, relaxation of the sparkling pool on-site, and replenishment from the delicious food at the restaurant.

Never have brown buildings on a sandy tan background looked so inviting and that is only the outside of the little dome cabins you can rent at Domos Los Abuelos. Next to your outdoor hammock is your front door that opens to a quiet, comfortable retreat, which also does a terrific job of using the space provided, and with a pool on-site, you won’t want to leave this little haven.

If you’re looking for something a bit more luxurious (and pricier), Noi Casa Atacama will more than suffice. This boutique resort style property offers serious luxury but the name casa is still fitting, as the layout is like a gorgeous mansion, with sun beds surrounding the pool, thatch palapa umbrellas, and spacious, comfortable, modern rooms.

To balance your need for a pretty boutique hotel, a great central location, and open areas to enjoy in the day and night, Pat’tat Hoiri is your place. A great central palapa to enjoy a meal or relax with a book at dawn or dusk, Pat’tat Hoiri is also a short walk right into the center of San Pedro de Atacama.

6.

Boutique Hotel, Bed and Breakfast

A short saunter to the Church of San Pedro, Pascual Andino is a stunning property with an immaculate layout and interior design. Pascual Andino offers great colour contrasts with the beds to the natural wood and clay walls, and little bathing pools and private dining areas all while being well situated in the arid desert.

As one of the only all-inclusive options in Chile, Explora Atacama is unique in how unexpected it is to be found in the middle of the desert. The big open layout, modern yet cozy rooms, and pools sparkling in the sun are a great combination of boutique hotel and luxury resort that establishes Explora Atacama as a fantastic option, especially in this remote part of Chile.
