Daegu National Museum

With countless artifacts that consist of everything from armor and jewelry to Buddhist relics and Confucian manuscripts, visitors can take a walk through the city’s history at Daegu National Museum. One of the more popular exhibits is the Traditional Folk Life Gallery, where the Seonbi culture and the beliefs and rituals of the Yeongnam area are beautifully presented. If you prefer something more hands-on, try one of the cultural programs like traditional dyeing.

Daegu Art Museum

With an aim to promote Daegu art’s advancement, the Daegu Art Museum presents exhibitions that introduce the social and artistic issues of the times, and illustrate the leading trends in the local and global art scenes.

Exhibitions rotate continuously and include works by both domestic and overseas artists. Works cover a wide range of mediums from contemporary sculpture to more classical painting styles.

Academic programs and lectures led by renowned professors are also offered to visitors of all ages, while concerts and holiday events aim to bring the Daegu community together through art.

Daegu National Science Museum

The Daegu National Science Museum, the first industrial science and technology museum in Korea, hosts two permanent exhibitions that focus on the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the regional industry of Yeong-nam province.

While the exhibitions are interesting enough on their own, the real draw to the museum are its annual events, such as its robotic competition and 3D printing demonstration, which draw visitors from all corners of the Korean peninsula.

Daegu Textile Museum

The center of textile industries, Daegu is home to a rather unique museum dedicated to textiles and their uses. Exhibitions focus on the past, present, and future of textile industries. Visitors can get an up-close look at how clothing and accessories, as well as the machines used to make them, have changed over time.

Many parts of the museum feel more like an art gallery, as a number of the works on display were actually crafted by fashion designers. Of particular interest is the artwork entitled “Dancing Energy.” Crafted from small dots of fabric carefully pieced together, the work represents the feminine fantasy of beauty.

Daegu Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine

Experience the history of oriental medicine through this interactive museum, which is largely divided into a exhibition and an experience center.

The exhibition illustrates the origin of oriental medicine in Yangnyeongsi, while the experience center allows visitors to better understand concepts like eumyang-ohaeng (the five natural elements of positive and negative) and sasangchejil (four body types) through direct experiences.

Take a walk along the museum’s acupuncture trail or soothe your feet in a footbath of medicinal herbs. On days ending with one or six (except the 31st), a wholesale market takes place downstairs.

Yeongcheon Bohyeonsan Astronomical Science Museum

Located on Bohyeon Mountain, this museum is the best place in Korea to observe the stars. It’s also one of the most convenient, as it’s located near Daegu.

Home of Asia’s biggest optical telescope (1.8 meters long), the museum lets visitors observe the mysterious night sky. Another museum highlight is the 5D Video Room, which transports visitors to other universes via a digital planetarium and a simulator.
