It’s big, it’s hard and it’s handling the cold like a seasoned champ.

This is not a drill. The picturesque landscape of the Austrian Alps has officially been disrupted with a seriously well-endowed addition. It’s not a tree, but it is made of timber. It is, in fact, a giant wooden penis – and it’s taking over the internet.

Alpinist Marika Roth came across this mystery phallus while hiking last week in Ötscher, Austria, and immediately shared it on her Facebook page. Unsurprisingly, the structure, measuring 2 metres in height, is attracting a lot of attention.

The artist behind the mystery installation remains as yet unknown, as does his or her reason for erecting (no pun intended) the sculpture. This air of secrecy just makes the #ötscherpenis, as it is now known, all the more intriguing and the town doesn’t intend to take the work down anytime soon.

According to the mountain’s marketing manager, Ines Enöckl, an increased number of tourists are expected to visit the area thanks to this wild sight.

Looks like only time will tell how long the big fella can stay standing.
