1. Steigenberger Hotel Drei Mohren

The hotel is located directly on Augsburg’s grand main street Maximilianstraße and is only a stone’s throw from major attractions such as the Schaezlerpalais, the city hall or the Perlachturm tower. The interior holds an atmosphere of traditional elegance. The rooms and suites feature beautiful bathrooms, upholstered sofas and armchairs, a minibar and flats-creen TVs for your comfort. On top of that, the restaurant is known for serving regional specialities alongside excellent wines, and guests can use the spa and wellness facilities that include a gym, several saunas, and a list of beauty treatments that can be booked at the hotel.

Located only a few kilometres from the city centre, the Quality Hotel offers an excellent value-for-money experience. The hotel has a country-house look and features four-star amenities, such as a rustic in-house wine tavern, a spa and wellness area with a Finnish sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi with views of downtown Augsburg. All rooms come with satellite TV, air conditioning, free wifi and marble ensuite bathrooms. The restaurant starts the day with a sumptuous breakfast buffet, followed by lunch, tea time and dinner.

If you’re happy staying a bit further out of town, the Best Hotel Zeller in Königsbrunn is a good option. The location does have its upsides: the Königstherme wellness centre is only a 10-minute walk from here, and if you need to get to Augsburg’s city centre, a direct bus service takes you straight there. The hotel itself does have its own spa facilities, a cosy reading room and in-house restaurant which dishes up the best of European cuisine.

5. Il Gladiatore

This gem among the many hotels in Augsburg is found in the Oberhausen neighbourhood and scores highly with attentive staff, Venetian décor and outstanding Italian food. Extra points are awarded for the cosy basement wine bar and the beautiful terrace. The 19th-century villa only contains 12 rooms spread across two floors, although all come with wifi access and are equipped with ensuite bathrooms, a TV and minibar. If you want a bit of extra glitz request a room on the first floor – they’re more spacious and decorated with gilded Stucco ornaments.

This traditional hotel is located in the best-rated part of town, right across from the Mozart House and around the corner from other notable attractions. Run as a family business, the Hotel Augsburger Hof will make you feel right at home with charmingly decorated rooms, all modern amenities and a large breakfast menu in the mornings. Several top-notch restaurants are within walking distance from here, which allows you to sample a variety of foods during your stay.

The City Hotel Ost am Kö provides excellent value for money for those who don’t want to compromise on location or comfort. The central town hall square is a five-minute walk away, and the Fuggerei neighbourhood can be reached within 15 minutes on foot. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, a flats-creen TV and high-speed internet access. Those travelling without a laptop can use the internet terminal in the lobby. On top of that, guests can use the sauna and quiet room free of charge and enjoy a drink at the bar.
