No trip in Italy is complete without a sweet pause to taste the best coffee in the world. Siena is a nice and small medieval town in Tuscany, and if you want to live the authentic spirit of it, you need to spend some time seated in a coffee bar like locals do. Siena has many touristic bars, but if you want to do like locals do, take a look at these four historic venues.

1. Torrefazione Fiorella

This cafè is one of the most famous of Siena: It is the right place to start your day in this enchanting medieval town while sipping one of the best cups of coffee you will taste in Italy. If you love it, you can also buy the coffee and take it home. Your friends will also love it, so consider it a tasteful Italian souvenir!

Fiorella is not only a place where you can drink coffee, you can order cappuccino, caffelatte, mochaccino, latte macchiato, caffè marocchino or, as it gets colder, a hot chocolate too. Additionally, in the summer, Fiorella offers refreshing iced coffee to tourists and locals who need a rest from Siena’s hot temperatures.

2. Caffè Nannini

Cafe, Pastry Shop, Italian, Coffee

One of the most elegant cafes in town is Caffè Nannini, a Sienese institution for coffee, aperitivo and sweets. If you want to taste one of the best coffee in town and eat excellent pastries, you have to go here. Sienese sweets are not famous worldwide but once in town you need to try them; panforte, a dry bread with spices and fruits, and ricciarelli, almond-based cookies, are simply the best. You can taste them at Nannini at the stand-up bar with a coffee or a cappuccino.

3. Bar Il Palio

Siena is known worldwide for the Palio, a horse race that takes place two times a year in the terrific Piazza del Campo. This square is the heart of the Tuscan town, and if you want to treat yourself like a prince or a princess, you can go to Bar Il Palio, the best place to admire all the beauty of this spectacular piazza and order a coffee or a cocktail.

4. Tea Room
