Disc golf originated in Canada, eventually spreading worldwide, and is mostly played in city parks and through league competitions. Home to the original disc golf superstore called Disc Nation, considered to be one of the best disc shops in the country, attracting disc golfers from all over, Austin features many spots where you can partake in this sport. Whether you’re a disc golf expert or wanting to try it out for the first time, here’s a list of places to play in Austin.

1. Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park on Slaughter Creek

Park

The course at Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park on Slaughter Creek is considered one of the more challenging courses in Austin, attracting professionals from near and far. The course recently underwent some renovations to improve the overall game. It has 18 holes and a par of 64, and there are walking paths, limestone benches and other natural elements along the course. This disc course is also internationally recognized by the Professional Disc Golf Association.

2. Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park

Forest, Park

Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park offers everything from unleashed dog areas to horseback riding, but many love it for playing a round of disc golf. The well-designed course – with benches at every hole for some resting time – is less challenging, making it perfect for those players who are just learning the game. You’ll also walk through a shaded forest during your time at the park, which is ideal in Central Texas.

3. Roy G Guerrero Disc Golf Course

Sports Center

Just east of downtown sits one of the most popular courses in Austin, the Roy G Guerrero Disc Golf Course. The course is over two miles long with a total of 18 baskets – each of which has a rubber composite pad preventing damage to your discs – and accommodates both professional players and beginners. There are very defined fairways with lots of much-needed shade plus beautiful trails that connect to the course.

4. Austin Ridge Bible Church

Church, Market

Launched in 2009, this course sits on the property of Austin Ridge Bible Church. The woodsy area makes for a more challenging but exciting game. The 20-hole game moves you through cypress trees, mulch pads and a pond, but be careful not to throw your disc in the pond – odds are you won’t be able to get it out. Overall, this course, with a medium difficulty level, takes about two hours to complete, depending on the number of players.
