1. The Milton

Taking its name after 17th-century poet John Milton, this wine bar is an ambient venue nestled on Ormond Road completed with exposed brick and timber cladding. Opened in 2015, The Milton boasts an impressive wine list which pairs well with the tapas menu. Whether you settle in a dark corner or take a seat at the 8.4-meter bar designed for interaction, The Milton will char a place in your heart.

2. Elwood Lounge

Elwood Lounge is a local watering hole where the same faces appear week after week and newbies are always welcome. Inside the art deco lounge, you can tuck into a pub-style meal with friends, have a drink and play a game of pool or AC/DC pinball. There is also a large outdoor courtyard in the back and seating on the sidewalk out the front. Elwood Lounge also has open mic nights and live entertainment.

3. Blue Tongue Wine Bar

Not only does Blue Tongue Wine Bar make the best Espresso Martini in the village but they also have an impressive Eurocentric wine list. In addition to their drinks this wine bar has a broad menu of modern Australian food including Spaghetti Vongole; chargrilled quail with green tea, grapefruit and gin glaze; and toasted brioche with chicken and leek sausage rolls. Blue Tongue Wine Bar also has a happy hour between 4pm and 6pm every day.

Quitting their jobs to buy their favourite bar, owners Rachel and Justin are clearly in tune with what locals want and are happy to provide. Republic of Elwood not only has a wide range of wines, beer, and spirits but allows customers to order over the bar from Turkish restaurant Lezzet, Italian restaurant Figo Pizza and Indian restaurant Curry Leaf. As if it couldn’t get any better, Republic of Elwood is also a dog-friendly venue.

5. Elwood Food and Wine Bar

Bright and welcoming, Elwood Food and Wine Bar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. The Eurocentric cafe menu is accompanied by a fine selection of wine. From Monday to Wednesday the restaurant offers $12.50 tapas and a glass of house wine, while every Friday you can get $12 pizzas and $15 paella. There is also live music every Sunday along with drink specials.
